What you need to know about injectables

02-02-2021

Cosmetic injectables are science’s answer to enhancing the features you already have and slowing down the aging process. Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers can be a safe and subtle way to look good and feel better, so you can walk through your day with confidence.

Skindepth (Perth) Cosmetic Nurse, Brooke Iriks, has nearly a decade of experience in the industry, and has helped hundreds of clients with their skin concerns. Now offering anti-wrinkle injections to Perth, she takes you through everything you need to know about cosmetic injectables below:

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

When you are happy, sad, surprised or concerned, it shows on your face. The muscles of the face allow you to express a range of emotions and these repetitive movements, over time, inevitably lead to folds and wrinkles. These lines, particularly in the frown area and outer corners of the eyes, can cause your faces to look older, tired or angry (even when you are not!).

Anti-wrinkle injections contain a dilute substance called botulinum toxin that is designed to reduce the movement of parts of a muscle. In turn, this smoothes away wrinkles and lines of the face and neck, and prevent new wrinkles from forming.

Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?

Yes. Anti-wrinkle injections are generally well tolerated at low cosmetic doses.

Untreated muscles will move as normal, so you will still be able to laugh, smile, frown and express yourself – just with less wrinkling of skin in the treated areas.

What concerns can anti-wrinkle injections treat?

Anti-wrinkle injections are useful for softening and preventing:

  • Frown lines and forehead lines
  • Smile lines (around the eyes)
  • Scrunching ‘bunny lines’ of the nose
  • Chin crinkling
  • Downward pull of the mouth
  • Neck wrinkles

Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to treat some medical conditions such as bruxism (teeth grinding) and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Will anti-wrinkle injections treat the wrinkles I already have?

Anti-wrinkle injections work well on wrinkles that ‘come and go’ with muscle movement. They do not work on wrinkles that are pre-existing but it can be used to soften these areas.

How do I avoid looking ‘frozen’?

Many people worry about anti-wrinkle injections making them look ‘frozen’. The ‘not frozen’ look is harder than you may think, but by treating with smaller doses more regularly you can soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without looking over done. You will not receive the same longevity of results, so regular reviews are encouraged. Rest assured, it can be done – and done well.

DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers?

As you age, your skin loses volume in the form of collagen. This volume loss leads to the appearance of tired, older looking skin with a loss of structural support.

Dermal filler (hyaluronic acid) is the natural building block of the skin's own collagen. It’s a water-loving product that provides hydration and can reposition areas of the underlying tissue to softly replenish loss of volume.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Yes. All treatments are signed off medically by Dr Alice Rudd via Skindepth’s secure online consultation process. Dr Rudd will assess which dermal fillers are suitable and safest for you and which produce is the most appropriate for your skin.

What concerns can dermal fillers treat?

Fillers can freshen your skin, giving you a more vibrant and youthful appearance. They can smooth out wrinkles and folds, volumize furrows, rebuild cheek volume and improve uneven skin contour.

Dermal fillers can improve:

  • Lines around the mouth (marionette lines/accordion lines)
  • Nasolabial folds (lines between the mouth and the nose)
  • Dark circles under the eyes (tear trough and periorbital rejuvenation)
  • Enhance cheeks
  • Lip augmentation, and treatment of lines around the mouth
  • Sagging jawline
  • Chin enhancement for recessed chin
  • Temple hollowing
  • Hydration of the skin face, neck and backs of hands
  • Scar revision
  • Total face rejuvenation

Will people know I have used fillers on my face?

When performed by an experienced and qualified cosmetic nurse, dermal fillers look natural and may be barely noticeable to those around you. Immediately post treatment you may experience a little swelling and bruising which can last 3 to 5 days. It’s important to factor this into your plan if you have an upcoming special event.
